Model Event: Friday, April 12
There will be a model event, as for the Classic Champs in 2017, between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm in Prince William Forest Park starting near Turkey Run Ridge Campground. There is a $15 per vehicle National Park entry fee (unless you have a suitable pass) so carpooling to the model event with one or more associates is recommended.

Model Event Maps
We are providing model maps for you to print at scales of 1:10000 and 1:7500. Model event maps are now available here. Controls will be located at each mapped location in the park.

Note:
  • Model maps will NOT be included in your meet packet and they will NOT be available at the model event. You are responsible for printing out the model map you plan to use.
  • Start and finish locations are indicated on the map and will have a streamer hung as close by as possible to mark them in the terrain. Control locations will have a stand and flag as will be used for all the weekend races but no electronic punching hardware.
Model Event Parking
Parking will be in the parking lot at the end of Turkey Run Road. To avoid the risk of receiving a parking ticket, please do not park along the park road. If it's a nice day, the parking lot may be heavily used  - another reason to consider carpooling.

Day 1 & 2: Saturday, April 13-14
The competition will be held on the Beaver Dam Run map, covering Marine Corps Base Quantico's Training Areas 8A and 8B, with the race arena at Dropzone Raven. There will be ample parking in the arena. The location is on a Federal Military Reservation and all competitors and spectators must pass through a security checkpoint located one mile west of Interstate 95 at Exit 148 (MCB Quantico) - remember a government issued I.D. is required to get on the base. After clearing the checkpoint, the exit onto a dirt road to reach Dropzone Raven is ~4 miles farther on MCB-1 and MCB-2 (turn left when you see the fire station). The route will be clearly marked with QOC Orienteering signs. Drivers are advised to adhere strictly to the speed limits on the Base. Allow 10 minutes to clear the security checkpoint and an additional 15 minutes to reach the arena. Dress for the weather (and consider bringing umbrellas if rain is predicted) as there will be no indoor facilities available in the start/finish area. Restroom facilities will be available.

NOTE
  • All competitors and spectators must pass through a security checkpoint at Exit 148, Marine Corps Base Quantico. A government issued I.D. is required to get through the gate and onto the base.
  • There will be a walk of ~400m from the arena to the middle and long distance start locations on Saturday and Sunday.
