See the eligibility rules (URL: http://orienteeringusa.org/rules#A36) (A36.2.2) for the makeup of SCHOOL, CLUB, AND JROTC teams. This event will also serve as the Air Force JROTC national championships. All rules applicable to other JROTC teams and individuals will apply equally to AFJROTC entrants, with the AFJROTC championships being decided based on a scoring list including just the subset of AFJROTC entrants. Rules/Procedures for Interscholastic/Intercollegiate Teams Teams must be able to prove their eligibility as required by the OUSA Rules of Competition (URL:http://orienteeringusa.org/rules#A12). Team members are permitted to compete for one team only. Once team members are registered, coaches should contact the registrar with their teams rosters. Coaches should convey their final team rosters to the registrar no later than 9pm, Friday, April 12, 2019. Coaches should confirm team members at registration packet pick-up. Quantico Classic Relay: The relay will be held in the same arena as the Quantico Classic middle and long distance races, on Saturday, April 13th, with a mass start at 2:30pm. Each relay team must have 3 runners, and no one can run more than one leg. There will be 6 classes of teams permitted, divided into two broad groups - club teams and scholastic teams. Club teams: Club teams can be either 3-point, 6-point or 9-point teams. A team's members must collectively add up to at least the number of points specified. All team members must be members of the same orienteering club or students/adults associated with the same school or JROTC unit for the team to be eligible for relay awards. Awards will be given to the top three eligible teams in each category. Ages 17-20 or 40-49 receive 1 point, Ages 15-16 or 50-59 receive 2 points, Under 15 years of age or 60 and older receive 3 points. A female orienteer receives 2 points, in addition to any age points. Age is orienteering age, i.e. age at the end of December 31, 2019. 3 will run legs of approximately orange difficulty, approximately 3km long. 6-point teams will run legs of approximately orange difficulty, approximately 3km long. The second leg will be slightly less technically challenging than the other two legs. 9-point teams will run first and third legs comparable to the 3 and 6-point teams. Their second leg will be slightly shorter and roughly comparable to a yellow course in technical difficulty. Scholastic teams: Since this weekend includes the Junior Nationals, there will also be relay team categories specifically for juniors, as follows: Scholastic junior varsity teams - made up of 3 people registered in the ISJVF/M classes (and/or ISIM/F, or ISPM/F). The relay legs will be as for the 9-point club teams. Scholastic varsity teams - made up of 3 people registered in the ISVF/M classes. The relay legs will be as for the 6-point club teams. Collegiate varsity teams - made up of 3 people registered in the ICVF/M classes, The relay legs will be as for the 3-point club teams. Awards will be given to the top three teams in each category. It is anticipated that most scholastic teams will be made up of team members from the same school but this is not required - juniors who can't form single school teams have the option of joining together into multi-school teams, which will be be equally eligible for relay awards. Juniors also have the option of joining club teams. Hopefully this will be sufficient flexibility to allow all interested participants to find relay teammates. All teams: There will be forking for all teams; control descriptions will be available only on the maps. There will be bibs, to be worn on the front of the body, specifically for the relay. Relay bibs will be available for pickup at the registration table in the race arena from the opening of the event on Saturday, April 13. Any team member may pick up the bibs for their team. Maps will be collected as every runner finishes. They will be released at the conclusion of the relay. The organizers ask all teams to register by emailing Valerie Meyer their roster, including the following information: - class of team - 3/6/9 point, or scholastic junior varsity, scholastic varsity, or collegiate varsity - club or school, if applicable (mixed teams are permitted but may not be eligible for awards, as described above) - team name (optional but less boring than what your team will otherwise be assigned) - name of first leg orienteer; points or IS/IC class of first leg orienteer - name of second leg orienteer; points or IS/IC class of second leg orienteer - name of third leg orienteer; points or IS/IC class of second leg orienteer It will be much appreciated if all teams register with Valerie before the race weekend begins (and the earlier the better). Last minute team roster changes, including on race day, will be accommodated to the best of the organizer's ability. ![]() |
